From Rosie to Roosevelt: The American Command
World War Two changed America in every way, and sixty years later we still feel its effects.
From Rosie to Roosevelt: The American Command takes a closer look at wartime presidents Franklin Roosevelt and Harry Truman, along with key military commanders and their fateful decisions. The United States was just recovering from the worst depression in its history when war broke out in Europe in 1939. The US was ill prepared for another world war, but by 1945, the country had contributed billions of dollars and thousands of lives to the victory over Germany, Japan and their allies. During that time, America was led by two presidents whose decisions had momentous consequences still felt in America and around the world today.
This
series begins with the film FDR, a look at Roosevelt's confident wartime
leadership, until his death just weeks before victory in Europe. It concludes
with The Bomb, a film about Harry Truman's fateful decision to use the
atomic bomb to end the war in Japan.
In between, the series studies the influence, strategies and decisions of George Marshall, Dwight D. Eisenhower and Douglas MacArthur. Learn how these outstanding military leaders dealt with new weapons, technology and problems among both enemies and allies.
